Thursday evening saw the 2nd Shutterstock Community Hampshire workshop, and we were once again hosted A-Space Arts at their Sorting Office venue in Eastleigh.
The evening was a free to attend ‘Submissions Clinic’, exploring methods and strategies aimed at improving chances of both acceptance and sales. The first part of the event consisted of a presentation centered around common rejection reasons, along with tips and tricks to avoid rejections in the future. Attendees were invited to bring images with them on a flash drive, that had either been rejected or that they were considering for submission, and the second half of the evening was spent discussing options for both post-processing and keywording, along with practical Photoshop demonstrations.
Subjects covered included:
- Common reasons for image rejection
- Post-processing for success
- Presets, Plugins & Filters for Lightroom & Photoshop
- Maximizing the potential of every image
- Pre-submissions checklist and optimizing keywords
- Before and after practical Photoshop demonstration
Since the first workshop, several attendees have successfully passed the Shutterstock submissions test and are busily building their portfolios. Hopefully, the second workshop will arm them with some tips, tricks and ideas for increasing sales.
I have received some very positive feedback from the evening, with one contributor telling me she barely slept afterwards, because her head was so full of ideas, and another confirming that he reprocessed and resubmitted previously rejected images and was subsequently approved at the second attempt.

The next free workshop is likely to take place in September. In the meantime, please feel free to post suggestions, comments and questions on the Blog.
